These buildings almost always have uncovered concrete floors, and benefit tremendously from the warm, dry floors that radiant hydronic floor heating can provide. Some of the best radiant floor heating opportunities are in pole barns, shops, garages, basements, automotive service centers, town highway garages, fire stations and aircraft hangers. It includes a significant percentage of single family houses as well as a large percentage of commercial buildings. The number of buildings with this type of floor construction is huge. To make the tubing turn easier, push or pull it so that it’s in constant contact with the pucks. As the past has demonstrated, concrete slab-on-grade floors are ideal for radiant floor heating. The tubes must be completely embedded in the concrete.Refer to the applicable code requirements of the type of building to determine required thickness according to the application loads. A minimum of 3″ of concrete above the pucks is recommended.Install wire mesh if required for slab reinforcement. If necessary, use tubing fasteners to hold the tubes in tighter bends or at the outlet for connection to the heating system. The spacing between the tubes must be defined by the heating system professional and according to the needs of the building to ensure its proper performance. The elevated puck system allows for the installation of 1/2″ or 5/8″ diameter tubing, with tubing able to be spaced at multiples of 3″.Following the designed laying pattern defined by the heating system professional, secure the tubing between the pucks by walking over it.To start a new row using the excess of a panel and to ensure alignment of the tube-retaining pucks, use the cutting lines on the back.Start the installation by positioning the ‘start’ arrow at the corner of the wall to ensure the panels are properly interlocked.Install the panels over the entire surface to be insulated.Install a vapour barrier polythene over the entire surface (if specified in the building code in your area) to ensure airtightness, moisture protection and soil gas control. ![]()
